The Prime Minister of Niue, Honourable Dalton Tagelagi, is currently attending the Pacific Regional and National Security Conference (PRNSC) in Suva, Fiji, taking place from 14 to 16 July 2025.

This significant regional forum brings together leaders and representatives from across the Pacific to address the security challenges and explore solutions to the growing POLYcrisis impacting the region. This includes discussions on environmental security, geopolitical dynamics, transnational crime and other complex risks facing the Blue Pacific.

The annual conference was first convened in June 2024 and has since served as a platform for collaboration between political leaders, regional and national security officials, academics, private sector representatives, and civil society. It supports a Pacific-led approach to promoting collective security, in line with the vision of a secure and resilient Pacific by 2050.

Facilitated by the Pacific Security College in partnership with ten regional organisations, the event focuses on advancing key regional frameworks, including the Boe Declaration on Regional Security and fostering dialogue on the concept of an Ocean of Peace.

Niue currently serves as Chair of the Forum Officials Sub-Committee on Regional Security (FSRS), reflecting its active leadership in regional security governance and its ongoing commitment to promoting stability and resilience in the Pacific.

In his official statement at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Tagelagi emphasised the importance of national leadership and regional solidarity, stating:

“The Conference gives all of us the opportunity to reflect on what we can do at home, and what we can do as the united Blue Pacific together, to promote security. Niue launched its National Security Strategy this year, and is a strategy that is shaped by the voices of our people to protect our values. We welcome the regional discussions about the Ocean of Peace, the next steps with the Boe Declaration, and how we can all realise the vision of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.”

The Government of Niue looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Pacific partners to safeguard the region’s security and ensure a peaceful, resilient future for all Pacific people.
