The HM. Niue Customs Service is pleased to announce that a mission from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is currently underway to enhance the ASYCUDA system in Niue.

The support program began on the 7th July and will conclude on the 18th July 2025. This mission follows the successful implementation of ASYCUDA and aims to strengthen its use and benefits for customs operations.

Led by Mr. Mohammed Rizwan Khan, an Information Systems Expert from the ASYCUDA Programme, the mission is part of the EU-funded Improving Pacific Islands Customs and Trade (IMPACT) project. The initiative supports the harmonization of customs processes across the Pacific.

Upon arrival, Mr. Khan was welcomed by the Minister of Finance, Hon. Crossley Tatui who expressed strong support for the ongoing collaboration with UNCTAD and emphasized the importance of digital tools in improving Customs efficiency and Trade facilitation.

The key objectives of the programme support include the installation and configuration of an analytical dashboard; the development of a reporting system and operational reports; the configuration of the ASYCUDA credit facility feature; training and configuration of the Time Release module; the configuration of offline tools and features; training stakeholders on the use of the warehousing facility in ASYCUDA; conducting training sessions for customs officers, businesses, and importers; and capacity building for all customs officers.

In addition to supporting Customs operations, Mr. Khan will meet with the Niue Immigration Department to explore enhancements to the current passenger processing system. A demonstration of the ASYPX system will be provided to support discussions on integration and future upgrades.

This mission represents a key milestone in Niue’s Customs modernization efforts. By strengthening the use of ASYCUDA, Niue aims to lower clearance costs, improve data reliability, and simplify trade processes for both the government and the private sector.
