The Government of Niue announces that the late Hon. Sani Lakatani, former Premier of Niue, will be honoured with a State Funeral in recognition of his dedicated service to the nation and leadership.

The body of the late Hon. Sani Lakatani will arrive Niue on Friday, 30 January 2026 from New Zealand. Upon arrival, a Funeral Service will be held at the Tuapa Ekalesia Church, followed by his burial.

Senior Public Servants and Members of Parliament are expected to attend the State Funeral. The Government has declared a Public Holiday on Friday 30 January to honour the legacy of the former Premier.

All attendees at the Tuapa Church are asked to respect the protocol arrangements and the burial program.

The Government of Niue asks everyone for their cooperation to ensure this solemn occasion is conducted with dignity and respect.

The late Hon. Sani Lakatani is widely admired for his immense contribution to Niue and will be remembered with deep gratitude.
