The Government of Niue this week welcomed Dr. Paula Vivili, Director-General of the Pacific Community (SPC), on his first official visit to Niue. The visit provides an opportunity to strengthen relations and discuss shared priorities.

Following his arrival on Monday, 13 July 2026, Dr. Vivili met briefly with Prime Minister, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, ahead of the Prime Minister’s departure for official engagements overseas. He later met with Cabinet Ministers and Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Richie Mautama, on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, to discuss the Niue–SPC partnership and future areas of cooperation.

Acting Prime Minister Mautama welcomed Dr. Vivili and his delegation and thanked SPC for its continued support to Niue. He acknowledged SPC's commitment to supporting Pacific Island countries through science, technical expertise, and regional partnerships, and recognised the many initiatives currently underway across the island. He also invited the delegation to visit project sites to see the progress being made.

Discussions highlighted SPC's support across key sectors, including climate change, education, fisheries, geoscience and energy, public health, statistics, land resources, and human rights, all of which contribute to Niue's national development priorities.

During his visit, Dr. Vivili will also meet with Heads of Department, government officials, and key stakeholders to discuss ongoing programmes and opportunities for future collaboration.

The Government of Niue looks forward to continuing its strong partnership with SPC to deliver lasting benefits for the people of Niue and the wider Pacific.
