The Government of Niue is pleased to host the upcoming Sixth Regional Fisheries Ministers Meeting (RFMM) and the Twenty-Fourth Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC) Ministers Meeting.

These high-level ministerial meetings will bring together leaders and senior officials from across the Pacific region, including representatives from member countries of the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).

The FFC Ministers Meeting will convene on Tuesday 22 July 2025, where Pacific Ministers will deliberate on the management of the region’s valuable tuna fisheries, with a focus on advancing sustainable fisheries governance. Key outcomes from the FFC Ministerial will contribute to discussions at the broader RFMM on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, where Ministers will address additional priorities including coastal fisheries management, the impacts of climate change, and other ocean-related issues.

The RFMM provides a platform for wider dialogue on oceanic and coastal fisheries, environmental sustainability, and regional cooperation. The first RFMM was held in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia in 2019, and has since served as a forum for Pacific regional organisations and leaders to coordinate action in the fisheries sector.

As host, the Minister for Natural Resources, Hon. Mona Ainu’u, will assume the role of Chair of the FFC Ministers Meeting, reinforcing Niue’s commitment to regional leadership in sustainable tuna fisheries management. Niue will also take the opportunity to champion the Ocean Literacy initiative, highlighting the importance of informed community engagement and stewardship of marine resources.

The Minister for Natural Resources, Hon. Mona Ainu’u, expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to host Pacific Ministers and partners for these important regional dialogues. She acknowledged the collective commitment of the Pacific to work together on fisheries and ocean governance, and reaffirmed Niue’s dedication to advancing shared goals.

Minister Ainu’u stated, "Our region is home to some of the world’s most valuable and sustainably managed tuna fisheries, and it is vital that we continue to work together to protect this resource for current and future generations. I look forward to advancing collaborative solutions, strengthening ocean literacy, and ensuring that the voices of our Pacific communities are at the heart of fisheries management."
