The Licensor of Business and the Niue Tax Office are pleased to announce the launch of the Online Business Licence Register.
The register is available on the Niue Tax Office website and provides the public with a convenient way to view business licence information and the current business licence registration status of businesses operating in Niue.
The information available on the register for each business is consistent with the information provided on the business licence certificate, which all businesses are required to display at their place of business. Under the Business Licence Act 1997, business licence information is available for public inspection during normal working hours. The Online Business Licence Register now extends access to this information by making it available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Licensor of Business, Doreen Siataga, says that while this is a big step forward in the right direction, there is still work to be done to validate the status of many of the businesses that have not recently renewed their business licence. She also acknowledged the contribution of Revenue Manager Dr Deveraux Talagi in delivering the Online Business Licence Register.
“Dr Talagi’s leadership and commitment have been instrumental in achieving this significant milestone and strengthening the delivery of online services for businesses in Niue”, said Doreen Siataga, Licensor of Business.
Over the last three years, Niue Tax Office and Ministry of Finance staff have been working behind the scenes to improve and strengthen internal processes by digitising records and developing a digital data framework to maintain these records. This work began with Tax Identification Number (TIN) records and income tax records and has most recently expanded to business licence and Niue Consumption Tax (NCT) records.
These efforts continue the initiative started by former Head of Tax, Ben Tanaki, to provide online tax services for Niue. The Niue Tax Portal has been available since 2023 and, following an upgrade earlier this year, now provides customers with a convenient and efficient way to meet their tax and business licence obligations online.
The digital platform reduces the need for paper-based processes and in-person visits while providing businesses with 24-hour access to government services. Filing through the Tax Portal also improves data integrity and information management, enabling faster processing times and more efficient service delivery.
Minister of Finance. Hon. Dalton Tagelagi welcomed the launch of the register.
"The launch of this online Business License Register contributes to the wider efforts to improve modernization of government services in Niue," said the Minister of Finance Dalton Tagelagi. "By leveraging digital technology, we are making it easier for businesses to meet their licensing and tax obligations."
The Online Business Licence Register supports the Government's ongoing commitment to improving service delivery, increasing transparency, and making it easier for businesses to access government services. Therefore, businesses are encouraged to register their businesses and take advantage of the new online services available through the Tax Portal.
