The Prime Minister of Niue, Honourable Dalton Tagelagi, has concluded a successful official visit to the People’s Republic of China, where he led Niue’s delegation to the 3rd China Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers Meeting and participated in a series of bilateral engagements to deepen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties. The visit underscored Niue’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that support sustainable development, regional cooperation, and global connectivity.

The Ministerial Meeting was held in the city of Xiamen, Fujian Province, from 28–29 May 2025, and chaired by Hon. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Leaders and representatives from across the Pacific participated, alongside the Deputy Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum.

The forum provided a timely platform for in-depth dialogue in China–Pacific relations and shared regional priorities. Prime Minister Tagelagi reaffirmed the strength of Niue’s diplomatic partnership with China and expressed gratitude for China’s continued support in areas such as climate action, sustainable ocean management, and resilient infrastructure.

“Niue values its enduring partnership with China and welcomes the opportunity to deepen cooperation in areas critical to our future, such as climate change, marine protection, tourism, infrastructure, and cultural exchange,” said Prime Minister Tagelagi. “We are committed to working together to build a resilient and prosperous Pacific.”

These visits provided insight into China’s advancements in education, maritime industries, cultural preservation, and international cooperation.

The Niue delegation then traveled to Zhuhai City in Guangdong Province under the framework of the Sister City Agreement between Zhuhai and Alofi South.
