The Government of Niue is pleased to announce the return of the National Village Cleaning Day Programme as we prepare to mark the 51st Constitution Day Celebration.

This initiative was implemented in previous years and has now been brought back to help create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all communities across Niue.

The programme will begin on Wednesday 8 October 2025, starting with the northern villages before moving to the southern side of the island. The removal of old vehicles will also commence on Friday 10 October 2025 starting with the villages of Makefu, Namukulu, Tuapa and Hikutavake.

Waste Streams for Collection:
• E-waste (TVs, computers, laptops, photocopiers, phones, etc.)
• Whiteware (refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, microwaves, air conditioners, etc.)
• Old car batteries
• Scrap metal

Village Schedule for Waste Stream Collection:
• Makefu, Tuapa, Namukulu – Wednesday 8 October
• Hikutavake, Toi, Mutalau – Thursday 9 October
• Lakepa, Liku, Hakupu – Monday 13 October
• Vaiea, Avatele, Tamakautoga – Tuesday 14 October
• Alofi North and Alofi South – Wednesday 15 October

Households are advised to place all relevant waste items in front of their properties for collection by the designated government departments. Updates on the collection of old vehicles for the remaining villages will be provided by the Department of Environment through social media platform, as the schedule will depend on the availability of heavy machinery from the Department of Transport and Utilities.

At this time, asbestos waste cannot be managed, and further information will be provided at a later date.

The Government of Niue encourages all residents to actively participate and work together with village councils and government teams to ensure the success of this programme. Together, we can foster a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment for all as we celebrate our nation’s 51st Constitution.
