Project Brief

The New Zealand Government (NZ-MFAT) is working closely with the Government of Niue (GoN) to support the development of the new Justice Building.

The new Justice Building will house key judicial offices including the courts, Department of Justice, Lands and Survey, a court registry and archives. Government of Niue has identified a preferred site for the new Justice Building in central Alofi, next to the Public Services Building.
In consultation with the GoN, NDY, Equinox Architecture and RDT Pacific Quantity Surveyors have led the concept design of the Niue Justice Building to inform GoN and NZ-MFAT on the scope, cost, and delivery approach. This will help to inform approvals and delivery plans. Thank you to everyone who has been involved so far in consultations on the concept design of the building.
The design team are making sure that the building is:
• Fit for purpose
• Functional
• Niuean by design
• Climate resilient
• Affordable
• Sustainable
• Meets community needs
• Maintenance and constructability is considered
• Future Proof
• Inclusive

What’s Next?

It's important that we get the design and project preparation right so that Niuean's can be proud of the Justice Building for generations to come. Following confirmation of the preferred concept design, the project will move into the design and project preparation phase. This is expected to take 12-16 months involving detailed site investigations, design development of each building component, procurement, approvals and preparation of documentation for the construction phase. The construction phase will then follow. We will endeavor to keep the community updated on progress as we bring this building to life.
