United Nations Country Team Director for the Pacific and UNFPA Representative in Fiji, Ms Bidisha Pillai, and the new Representative of the UN Women Fiji Multi-Country Office, Ms Alison Davidian, presented their Letters of Credence to the Prime Minister of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, on Monday, 27 July 2026.
They were joined by Ms Karla Robin Hershey, who has served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Samoa, Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau since April 2025.
The presentation formed part of a joint mission by the Samoa-based United Nations Country Team to strengthen cooperation with the Government of Niue and support the implementation of the Niue Country Implementation Plan (CIP) 2025–2027.
Prime Minister Tagelagi welcomed the delegation and highlighted several of Niue’s key priorities, including environmental conservation and protection, climate change and efforts to support sustainable population growth. He also expressed interest in learning more about the United Nations’ support for Small Island Developing States and exploring innovative approaches to address challenges and identify practical solutions.
During the mission, the Government of Niue and the United Nations Country Team will convene the Joint Steering Committee meeting to review progress under the CIP and identify opportunities for enhanced United Nations support. The team will also hold Common Country Analysis consultations with government agencies, civil society organisations and development partners.
The mission reaffirms the shared commitment of the Government of Niue and the United Nations to strengthening their partnership and supporting Niue’s national development priorities.
