Prime Minister of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi, and Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Hon. James Marape, signed the Framework Agreement on Technical and Development Cooperation between the Government of Niue and the Government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea on Wednesday 2 September 2026 in Koror, Palau.
The Agreement establishes a framework for closer cooperation between the two countries and reflects their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing common development priorities.
It supports collaboration in areas including economic development, education, health, climate resilience, infrastructure, fisheries, renewable energy, cultural exchanges, and public sector strengthening. The Agreement also provides a foundation for future initiatives and partnerships that will benefit both nations.
The signing represents an important step forward in the relationship between Niue and Papua New Guinea. Through enhanced technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and capacity building, it is expected to support Niue's development priorities while creating new opportunities for cooperation across a range of sectors.
Prime Minister Tagelagi acknowledged Prime Minister Marape and the Government of Papua New Guinea for their commitment to strengthening ties with Niue and for their continued support and partnership. The Agreement reflects the shared aspirations of both countries to promote sustainable development, resilience and prosperity for their peoples.
