The Government of Niue is proud to announce that Niue has been honoured with two prestigious awards from the International Longevity Center United Kingdom (UK) for its contributions to healthy ageing. Niue has received the gold medal award for the “Jab-elin” and the bronze medal award for “Race Walking,” for childhood immunisation and physical activity. The ceremony was held on Tuesday 16th July 2024 in Paris, France.

The gold medal award for Jab-elin, under the Immunisation & Preventative Healthcare category, recognises Niue's excellence in childhood immunisation. Our findings indicate that across five childhood immunisation programmes, an estimated 99% of infants in Niue are vaccinated.

The bronze medal award for Race Walking, under the Physical Activity & Life Expectancy category, highlights Niue's level of physical activity among its adult population.

The Premier of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi expressed immense pride in these achievements, stating, " I want to extend my gratitude to the Department of Health, especially the Public Health Division and the people of Niue for their tremendous efforts. This achievement would not have been possible without their hard work and the active participation of our community. This award is a significant recognition for Niue. Our dedication to maintaining high immunization rates and encouraging active lifestyles has not only improved the health of our community but has also set a benchmark for other nations to follow."

The Government of Niue extends its appreciation to Dr. Dean Rex, Special Envoy for Global Engagement for accepting the award on behalf of the government. We also express our gratitude to the Niue Foou Hospital and the people of Niue for their active participation in health programmes and commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
